:-)MK Crew headed for the East yesterday for round 3 of the East Anglia regional series, hosted by Norwich. Norwich are in the process of getting a new track development underway so it had to be held at Ipswich. Gate practice saw the MK Crew discussing the techincal side of the track which is more of a national standard with loads of big jumps, sections you have to really pump through and a steep start hill with a quick gate.
First up on the gate was Max's friend Josh in 9 and under novice. Josh has raced once before at MK but decided to travel further afield for a bit of a taste of BMX and he loved it, coming home with a nice big trophy as well! There were some riders in the goup that looked a lot bigger than 9 but Josh held his ground in all motos and the final.
Mk Crew's Bob Deveraux in the 6 and Unders didn't seem phased by anything on the track and liked the fact that the gate was nice and fast. He dominated his class, but in the 3rd moto he had someone catching up with him almost at the finish line. Few coaching words about pedalling all the way to the line and Bob took the final.
Next up we had Max Salthouse and Fred Deverux in the 7s. Fred showed a good win in moto 1 but then Max played catch up and it could have been either of them from then on.
Ethan Lewis from Royston had a hard battle and being one of the youngest in the age group was going great guns, showing the older lads a thing or too. The final was a win for Fred with Max and Ethan Lewis clanging wheels on the berm - and Ethan falling leaving Max with a 2nd for the Mk Crew. Ethan picked up roder of the day trophy.
Alan Hill was mixed up with the 40+ cruiser which took him safely home and dry in 1st place for the Mk Crew.
Abi Hill and Kate Cook raced in 13+ Girls for MK Crew. Kate Andrews battled it out with Abi all the way, with a home advantage on Kate Andrews' side. Ellie Goodman took the win, follwed by Abi and Kate A neck and neck with Abi (I think) getting second in the final) . Kate Cook came in 5th in front of Nicola Reid who had a crash on the first berm and 'Girlie' age about 11 finding the 13+ cattegory a bit fast for her little legs!
Matt Hibbert raced in his first ever expert race as 30+ and was mixing it in with the likes of top superclass riders like Hilly and Townsend. A crash in the third moto and a B final placing for Mk Crew's newest member - but watch this space. This 4x rider will be FAST when he gets 20 inch sussed.
Masterclass saw Hilly looking good in the motos and making the A final but was bet to the line after some really close racing by younger lads like Ben Forward, Robby Goodman and William Buck on their home track. Perhaps you can fill me in Hilly, were you 3rd?
All in all, considering Norwich are trackless, it was a great day out, nice atmosphere, good track and not a cloud in the sky. The trackside music was good too and I'm really glad I did the journey as it was worth it.
People to watch out for from other clubs:
Matty Kirk - (Rider of the Day) showing great technique and passing skills for a full 40 seconds without giving up, every moto and final.
Cam Howard on Cruiser looking very fast considering he's one of the youngest out there on cruiser.
Ethan Lewis - Rider of the Day (7s)
Beany on 40+ snapping at the heels of Adie Warden despite being out of BMX for a few years
