The Club Night Summer Series kicked off last night with some taking part for the first time. The tuck shop arrived first with chairs and grandparents. Slowly the track started to fill with anxious parents and nervous riders. Rich came all the way from Birmingham for his first race meeting of the year and was nervously pacing up and down praying for lane 4 in his final. The new race shirts were handed out and everyone got kitted out in full MK Crew regalia. This was the showdown; could Bob be beaten? Was Matty going to race Roger on his pitt bike? Was Becca going to take part? Were the Hardies going to get close to Jey-T? Was Roger going to race crowser? Was Rich going to get lane 4?
The Clark's were in warzone with Cam Clark faling in practice and hurting is face which meant he had to sit out. Lee Clark was also nursing an old injury.
In the interval we had a few rolling races, with the little ones taking part and really enjoying it. By this time, the track was filling with curious spectators of all ages, fascinated as to why no-one was pedalling.
And we're off: In the first race we had the first group of 9 and unders with new riders like Kye looking good and managing to stay on! Jey T lead the pack being the most experienced rider in the group and won the final.
Group 2 had Ethan, Bob and Fred, the Hardy brothers and, the Keatings. Fred won all motos but Bob lead the final but he was pipped to the line by a late challenge by his older brother Fred who decided to 'have none of it'.
In the senior group we had Roger Clarke leading all the way, with Larna also putting in some effort to stay at the front and Rich (who got Lane 4) put in some serious effort to keep up with the 9 year olds at the back and crossed the line like a true star. Matty did everything bar race seriously, trying to come out the gate last and then take the other riders.
The spectators were by now latching on to Roger as their hero for the day and said they are going to take part next week.
ox was too tired to race from Paris and did the gate (thanks Fox). Becca slept in the van, too tired to even get out the van!
Champions So far:
James Turvey
Fred Devereux
Roger Clarke
Next week sees the return of the Fox and a few others on top form including the Salthouses and the Clarkes.
It's not too late to take part and qualify for a medal - see you next tuesday 6.30 and have some fun racing with the Mk Crew
